Bob manning

Robert Alan Manning, known as Bob to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2023 after an extensive decline in health. Born to Alan Monroe and Arline McKee Manning in Albany, New York on October 31, 1937. Bob lived a full 85 years and was blessed with a loving family and many friends.

A New York native, Bob majored in communications at St. Lawrence University, then did graduate work in speech and media at Penn State University. After 5 years in the family publishing business, he began a 25-year career in radio and television which would take him from New York, Pennsylvania, Arkansas, West Virginia, Kansas, and Georgia before finally settling in North Carolina. His last 10 working years were spent franchising an executive search and recruitment service, Management Recruiters International before officially retiring in 2003. Throughout his life, Bob dedicated his time and efforts as a civic leader giving back to his community. He believed that it was everyone’s duty to contribute to their community. He volunteered with countless organizations such as Junior Achievement, The Alzheimer’s Society, Jobs for Life, and The American Cancer Society. He was a member of the Grand Lodge Order of Elks No. 764 and played an instrumental role in the disaster relief fund to help those stricken by Hurricane Florence. His most honored achievement and passion was for Rotary International. He was a dedicated member for 53 years spending countless hours volunteering in the many facets of the country’s largest service organization.

Bob had a huge passion for boating and spent many years enjoying captaining his own boats, The Impulse I and II. He expanded his passion by serving in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for 15 years. He also enjoyed photography, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Those that knew him, would say he never met a stranger. He loved people with every bit of his huge personality and never missed an opportunity to talk to others. His booming radio voice will be heard forever in our hearts and minds.
